Kelly Druce
Clinical Groups: Small Animal Internal Medicine, Small Animal Oncology
Kelly works as both a Medicine and Oncology nurse within the RVC's specialist referral hospital, providing nursing care to a variety of cases and assisting in training of student veterinary nurses and veterinarians. Kelly is also a teaching fellow and clinical educator at the RVC school of veterinary nursing where she lectures on a variety of topics and merges her passions for clinical nursing and education.
Kelly started working in a busy first opinion practice in the late 90's, qualifying with a diploma in veterinary nursing in 2000. Kelly continued in first opinion practice, working as a nurse, assessor and internal verifier, and finally as a head nurse. After several years Kelly left her primary care practice to pursue a career in education, teaching animal care and veterinary nursing at a FE college. Here Kelly gained her diploma in teaching and topped up her VN qualification to a BSc with first class honours. In 2014 Kelly joined the internal medicine department at the RVC as a locum nurse and took a permanent role as a medicine nurse in 2015.
In 2016 Kelly split her clinical role with the Oncology department and continues to work in both Medicine and Oncology within the Queen Mother Hospital for Animals and also took the role of Clinical Educator at the RVC, assisting with many aspects of nurse training, in particular delivery of practical clinical teaching. In 2020 Kelly gained her PgCert in Veterinary Education and became a fellow of the Higher Education Academy and in 2023 Kelly gained her PgDip in Veterinary Education and accepted the additional role of Teaching Fellow at the RVC's school of Veterinary Nursing.
Kelly has published several journal articles and has spoken at a variety of events including BVNA congress, Clinical Coach congress and London Vet Show. She works with a variety of education providers to deliver webinars and CPD days on current topics in Medicine, Oncology and Veterinary Education. Kelly also works as an examiner, verifier and question writer for VN educational colleges and is passionate about nurse training and development.
Kelly's key areas of clinical interest focus around endocrinology, immune mediated disease, renal disease and oncological nursing.
