Last week, the Royal Veterinary College (RVC) was delighted to receive a delegation from the College of Veterinary Medicine, Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST). The visit was part of an ongoing Educational Twinning Project between the two universities with the aim of strengthening their exchange programmes and broadening opportunities for students in both the UK and Jordan.  

The project, twinning veterinary education between the RVC and JUST, is sponsored by the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) and aims to develop the teaching expertise of faculty from both institutions through mutual visits, official communication, research projects and integration with joint specialist workshops in different areas of veterinary medicine and includes the participation of the Ministry of Agriculture for Jordan and experts from the Arab world.

The party also spent time in the Queen Mother Hospital for Animals at the Hawkshead campus and the Beaumont Sainsbury Animal Hospital at Camden. An RVC delegation plans to meet colleagues in Jordan in the autumn to continue to develop the project.   The delegation of faculty members and a group of graduate students from JUST included Professor Yasser Tarazi, Dr Rami Muqbel, Dr Myassar Alekish and the project coordinator Prof. Ehab Abu Basha. From the RVC the participants were the Project Leader, Professor Javier Guitian alongside Dr Troy Gibson, Dr Liam Good, Dr Ayona Silva-Fletcher, Dr Steven Van Winden, Dr Martin Whiting and Mrs Nina Davies.   Professor Stuart Reid, Principal of the Royal Veterinary College, said: “The RVC is very proud to be an integral part of the further development of veterinary education in Jordan and the Middle East with our international partners and the essential support from the OIE. The RVC-JUST Twinning and, in particular, the 10 twinned Masters students, speaks directly to our One Health agenda and the fact that we are very much open for business on an international stage.”
