FLondon Veterinary Teaching Hospital Deemed Outstanding in five awards with the RCVS Practice Standards Scheme

The RVC's Beaumont Sainsbury Animal Hospital (BSAH) is the first in London to have been judged as ‘Outstanding’ in five awards by the Practice Standards Scheme at the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) – the body that regulates the veterinary professions.

The five awards the Beaumont Sainsbury Animal Hospital (BSAH) was assessed and deemed ‘Outstanding’ in are:

  • In-patient Service
  • Diagnostic Service
  • Patient Consultation Service
  • Client Service
  • Team and Professional Responsibility.

These break down into 17 sub-categories, and the hospital was judged ‘Outstanding’ in all of them. BSAH is the first veterinary practice in London to achieve ‘Outstanding’ awards in all these areas.

   

Commenting on the awards, Head Vet Paul Pollard, said: “We are very proud to receive these awards. They are in recognition of the tireless devotion our team have to continually improve and to be the best we can be. This approach enables us to provide the best possible service and treatment to all our clients and their beloved pets, while teaching this to the vets of the future.”

Anne Richings, Hospital Director, said: “I am absolutely thrilled to see the hard work, dedication and exceptional standards of care delivered by our team recognised by the RCVS Practice Standards Scheme. To receive ‘Outstanding’ for each award and all 17 sub-categories is a huge achievement and a reflection of the compassionate and well considered service that we strive to deliver for the patients in our care.

“Teaching students that you can deliver a very high standard of care in general practice is integral to our values as a teaching hospital at the RVC, and we hope that these awards will also inspire future generations of vets and veterinary nurses to strive high throughout their own careers.”

As well as providing exceptional care to animals and an exceptional service to owners, the BSAH is one of the RVC’s teaching hospitals, which train future generations of veterinary surgeons and nurses. The awards therefore reflect not only the quality of treatment and care that animals receive at the BSAH but also the quality of the training environment and the clinicians trained at the RVC.

Emma Stansfield, Head Nurse, said: “Here at the BSAH, we are immensely proud of the consistent hard work we do to ensure the care provided to our hospitalised patients is of the highest standard, day-after-day. For our holistic, thorough and deeply caring approach to be recognised and commended in this way is hugely satisfying for the team and only stands to embed this ethos further into the future of the profession through the young vets and veterinary nurses that train alongside us.”

The PSS awards help owners to recognise the skills and services a veterinary establishment excel at. The scheme honours practices that provide services above and beyond the stringent standards required for RCVS accreditation.

The BSAH was established in 1932. It has had charitable status in the past but is no longer a charity and is open to all. Services include a free wellness visit with the vet for newly registered healthy pets, to familiarise them with the practice and help to minimise any stress for their pet at future visits.
