Nursing Courses
As with the Veterinary Medicine courses mentioned above, the BSc and the Foundation degree in Veterinary Nursing are determined by the key skills set down by
the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons. Once qualified, students will be placed on the RCVS Register of Veterinary Nurses.

A large proportion of these courses are practical training, involving shift work, travelling to placements and being on call. Some of the skills you will develop in order to qualify are:
• A level of academic knowledge in the science of the healthy and sick animals and nursing care. You will attend lectures, sit exams and do research from journals and books
• Be flexible and adaptable in practice, performing a variety of roles
• Be a key member of a veterinary team, assisting and advising colleagues
• Communicate with understanding and compassion to clients and owners, as well
as educating owners about
the health and welfare of their animals
• Undertake diagnostic tests, such as taking blood samples
• Administer medical treatments, such as injections and eye drops
• Handle and restrain animals safely and humanely
• Perform minor surgical procedures and suturing
2.2 Postgraduate Courses
If you are considering a postgraduate course and
you have a disability, as a UK student you may have some
idea of the support you need from your previous degree. If
you have acquired a disability,
it may be useful to discuss any access or support available
with the Graduate School or the Disability Adviser. It is important to understand the demands of studying at MSc or PhD level are often much more than expected.
