Avoid rejection to fix a broken heart: assessing the feasibility of allogeneic stem cell therapy for canine dilated cardiomyopathy
Supervisor - Dr David Connolly dconnolly@rvc.ac.uk
This is a one year funded MRes position with the possibility of leading onto a full PhD.
The main objectives are to characterise and compare immunological parameters and reactivity of autologous and allogeneic canine mesenchymal stem cells and cardiosphere derived cells in an in vitro model system of transplant immunoreactivity. This will act as a proof of concept study for future work directed at the treatment of dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) in predisposed breeds.
This project is in collaboration with Prof Brian Catchpole and Dr Jay Dudhia (RVC) and Dr Hannah Hodgkiss-Geere (University of Liverpool).
The start date will be October 1st 2016. If you are interested in finding out more details then please contact Dr David Connolly at dconnolly@rvc.ac.uk
The deadline for applications is 13th March 2016
