Mortality due to trauma in cats attending veterinary practices in central and south-east England
A newly published VetCompass study provides evidence as to the important demographic and spatial factors associated with the risk of mortality following trauma, and more specifically road traffic accident, relative to other diagnoses in cats.
Mortality data on a sample of 2738 cats was analysed using generalised linear models.
The study found that a greater proportion of younger cats died through traumatic and road traffic accident-attributed causes relative to other causes of mortality. No apparent associations were found between risk of mortality and an urban environment or areas of increased human population density.
