Professor Jonathan Elliott, Professor of Veterinary Clinical Pharmacology at the Royal Veterinary College (RVC), has been elected as a Fellow of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) for his contributions to the profession.

The RCVS is responsible for setting, upholding and advancing the educational, ethical and clinical standards of veterinary surgeons and nurses. Since 2016, the RCVS Fellowship has been awarded in recognition of those who have made outstanding contributions to the veterinary profession, veterinary knowledge and clinical practice.

Professor Elliott has been awarded the Fellowship for his Meritorious Contributions to the Profession (MCP). He has been an academic at the RVC for 32 years and for 16 of these, he served as Vice Principal for Research and Innovation, taking responsibility for the institution’s research strategy and preparing three consecutive Research Excellence Framework (REF) submissions. Each submission saw the RVC significantly increase its international standing with 88% of its research rated as internationally excellent or world class in 2021.

Professor Elliott was awarded the Pfizer Academic Award (1998) for his research contributions to the pathophysiology of laminitis and the BSAVA Amoroso Award (2001); the PetPlan Scientific Award (2005); the European Society of Nephrology and Urology Award (2007); and the BSAVA Woodrow Award (2019), all for his clinical research contributions in the area of feline chronic kidney disease.

Professor Elliott is a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Pharmacology and Toxicology (ECVPT) and was President from 2018 to 2021. He is a member of the International Renal Interest Society, secretary to the PetPlan Charitable Trust Scientific Committee and is a panel member of the UKRI Future Leaders Fellowship scheme.  He served for 8 years as a member of the Veterinary Products Committee (2001-2009), for 6 years on BBSRC’s Studentships and Fellowships Panel and is currently a member of the Animal Plant Health Agency scientific advisory board.
