The Royal Veterinary College is the oldest vet school in the UK, and is part of the University of London. The RVC enjoys a prestigious reputation throughout the world, and the expertise of our staff is internationally recognised. We received the maximum score of 24 out of 24 in an assessment of teaching standards by the Quality Assurance Agency in 2003. The veterinary medicine degree is accredited by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, and the RVC was the first UK veterinary school to be accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association. Our graduates benefit from the ability to practice throughout both the UK and the USA, and further afield. The accreditation of the BSc Bioveterinary Science course by the Society of Biology has recognised the valuable skills and experiences these students go onto offer to employers within the science sector. Further details are available from the Society of Biology.
The RVC is committed to creating employable graduates that meet the needs of the veterinary sector and beyond. Our commitment to creating leaders of the future does not stop at helping our graduates into employment; We recognise that finding the right role, offering professional development and job satisfaction, is just as important for all our graduates and their employers. So, whether you are an alumnus of the RVC who appreciates the opportunity to maintain this link with the RVC and is well aware of the capabilities and skills of our graduates, or an employer who is learning about us for the first time, thank you!
A lot of our graduates and specialist postgraduates are interested in veterinary practice including companion, equine, exotic and farm roles but some seek alternative options. Such other areas can include roles involving work with animals, animal charities, related government agencies, veterinary pathology, veterinary practice management and zoo-keeping. Additionally, scientific roles in industry, academia and publishing are often of interest.
If you have any questions about the vacancy promotion process, or would like to engage our students/graduates further, please contact the RVC Careers Service.

Veterinary Surgeon - Vale Veterinary Group (Devon) - £36,000+
Job title: Veterinary Surgeon
Closing date: 25/11/24
Company name: Vale Veterinary Group
Type of practice: Small Animal
Salary: 36,000, upwards with experience
Temporary/Permanent Contract:Permanent
Full time/Part time:Full time
Company address: College Road, Cullompton, EX15 1TG
Information on the role/Job description:
The Vale is an established, independent practice in Devon. We are interested in finding the vets that share our values, passion and commitment. Values It's a cliche but we are proudly independent. This is very important to us and increasingly our clients, hence our need for recruitment. We do our own out of hours work, this means we can offer the best service and continuity of care to our clients and their pets. This is run on a 1:10 (or better) rota with generous time off following duties.
We want the pets and owners that come through our doors to be treated as we would treat our own animals. We are not about a production line of consults; we know there is a lot more job satisfaction when there is time and opportunity to build rapport and relationships.
Passion Whatever your passion, we find developing them benefits all and we are keen to support them. We have various certificate holders who have developed their interests and are happy to share their experience. We have excellent equipment that we put to good use.
Something that strikes anyone that walks through the door is the collaborative nature of our team, we discuss our cases, we pool our ideas, and argue pros and cons of treatments. Ultimately, we find it makes for a great environment, a growth mindset and better outcomes. We can support a new graduate and several members of our staff are VetGDP advisors.
Commitment To quote the directors ‘we want people to enjoy working here’. People matter, this is a practice that has a family feel to it and we intend to keep it that way.
Happier, valued staff look after pets and their owners better. We are committed to our staff and in turn we hope to find the vets who share our ethos and commitment in providing the best care for our clients and their pets. We are perfectly situated as a gateway to the South West and the benefits it offers; beautiful countryside with moors, coast path and beaches, while still accessible to airports and the rest of the country. We are a sociable lot and enjoy catching up outside work whether to the pub, rugby, or dog walk! Due to our growth, we have the potential to consider a suitable experienced veterinary surgeon and a role for a new or recent graduate.
