Pet Passports
Travelling to the European Union or Northern Ireland with your pet?
Update January 2023: We are currently unable to offer our pet passport/animal health certificate service
This is due to high caseloads and staff shortages - we hope to reinstate these services soon
A current EU pet passport issued in GB will NOT be valid for travel to the EU or NI from 1st January 2021.
Before your dog, cat or ferret can travel to the EU or NI for the first time after 1st January 2021, you’ll need to apply for an animal health certificate.
What is a pet passport?
A pet passport is a document which enables pets to enter (or re-enter) the UK from EU countries (and some other listed countries) without quarantine, providing they meet the requirements of the Pet Travel Scheme (PETS). With a passport, an owner can travel with their pet to other EU countries and return to the UK, for example on a holiday. A passport may also be accepted for travel to some non-EU countries, however many require different or additional documentation. Pet passports can only be issued to domestic dogs, cats and ferrets.
The Animal Health Certificate replaces the pet passport from 1st January 2021
