What to do if your pet is ill
Nobody knows your pet better than you do. Sometimes it is obvious that a pet is ill but other times the first sign of illness might just be that your pet doesn't seem "quite right"
If you have any concerns at all, please contact the hospital so that we can arrange for one of our veterinary surgeons to examine your pet and work with you to figure out what is wrong.
Often, having an experienced veterinary surgeon listen carefully to the things you have noticed at home and and a perform a thorough physical examination of your pet will be sufficient for us to provide you with appropriate advice and your pet with the treatment that they need. In more complex cases, rest assured that the hospital has full access to diagnostic facilities such as ultrasound, Xray, and laboratory testing to get to the bottom of the problem.
Some common signs to look out for include:
- Vomiting
- Diarrhoea
- Blood in stools/faeces
- Lack of appetite
- Reduced activity levels
- Urinating more frequently
- Urinating less frequently / straining to urinate
- Coughing / increased effort to breathe
- Hair loss
- Itchy skin
- Lameness or stiffness
