Support for Students with Disabilities or Specific Learning Differences

Studying with a disability or a specific learning difference can require planning. At the RVC we offer specialist advice and support to help you succeed on your course.

If you have a disability, learning difference or long term physical or mental health condition you should register with the Advice Centre in order to access support to assist you with your studies. The Advice Centre has a dedicated Disability Adviser who can provide advice and guidance on the support available including special exam arrangements and other reasonable adjustments as well as applying for specialist funding support.

Accessing Support

Declaring that you have a disability or learning difference on entry does not mean support will automatically be in place for you. Students still need to register with the Advice Centre by booking an appointment with the Disability Adviser and providing appropriate medical or diagnostic evidence.

Dyslexia screening service

If you have ever wondered whether you have Dyslexia, the RVC offers a screening service to help students decide if they wish to pursue a full diagnosis. The screening involves an online test and a questionnaire and will indicate whether you might be dyslexic. Once completed the Disability Adviser can provide further guidance in terms of onward referral and funding assistance for a full assessment if appropriate. To have a confirmed diagnosis of Dyslexia students have to be seen by an Educational Psychologist or appropriately qualified Assessor.

We are unable to provide a screening service for ADHD or Autism. These conditions require a medical diagnosis and you should talk to your doctor in the first instance. You are welcome to discuss referral mechanisms for this and the potential support available after a confirmed diagnosis with the Disability Adviser.
