Pride 2024 at the RVC
LGBTQ+ Pride is a powerful celebration of identity, resilience, and progress within the LGBTQ+ community. Its origins trace back to the Stonewall Riots of 1969, a pivotal moment when LGBTQ+ individuals stood up against police harassment and discrimination in New York City. This courageous act ignited a global movement advocating for equal rights and acceptance.
Pride Month commemorates this rich history and the ongoing fight for equality, serving as a reminder of the community’s struggles and triumphs. By coming together to celebrate Pride, we promote this essential time for raising awareness, fostering inclusivity and celebrating the diverse identities that make up the LGBTQ+ community, ensuring that everyone feels seen, heard and valued, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.
As part of RVC’s ongoing commitment to fostering an inclusive culture, we have created different initiatives online and in person across both Camden and Hawkshead campuses:
LGBTQ+ Book Social Event on Campus (open to all students and staff):
Join us in Camden for an exciting LGBTQ+ Book Social Event followed by pizza and soft drinks! Discover new reads, share your favourite books, and connect with fellow book lovers in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere. Don't miss out on this great opportunity to ignite your passion for reading and make new friends at the RVC.
Talk: 'Gender Identities: How We Can Support our LGBTQ+ Students and Colleagues'
We are also excited to announce our Pride speaker, Morgan Page, Trans Manager at Stonewall, who will talk about “Gender Identities: How We Can Support our LGBTQ+ Students and Colleagues”. This event will take place on the 17th of June, from 1-2pm, online.
