The RVC has a number of mechanisms in place to reward staff. This page details information about the RVC salary scale, other reward mechanisms, and details about the pension schemes available to all staff.

Extended Salary Range Scheme

Payroll Procedures and Forms
The Payroll Team are responsible for the accurate and timely payment of salaries to all RVC employees in accordance with all relevant legislative requirements, conditions of service and Financial Regulations. The team are also responsible for the administration of the USS and SAUL pension schemes and are based at the Hawkshead Campus. Any pay or pension related queries should be directed to a member of the payroll team.

Pensions
The RVC offers membership of the following pension schemes:
- Superannuation Arrangements of the University of London - SAUL (for staff in Grades 1 to 5)
- Universities Superannuation Scheme - USS (for staff in Grades 6 to 9)

The RVC also offers PensionsPlus (as part of BenefitsPlus) for eligible employees in all sections of the USS and SAUL Pension schemes. Information about PensionsPlus is only available to RVC employees, please visit the intranet page: Pensions Plus.

SAUL Pension Scheme
Important information regarding the Superannuation Arrangements of the University of London (SAUL)
RVC Grades 1 to Grade 5 are automatically enrolled into the SAUL Pension Scheme under a Salary Sacrifice arrangement.

USS Pension Scheme
Important information regarding the Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS)
All RVC Grades 6 and above are automatically enrolled into the USS pension scheme under a Salary Sacrifice arrangement.

Special Reward Panel
The Special Reward Panel (SRP) is a decision making body whose purpose is to manage the remuneration and rewards for all staff up to and including Grade 8. The SRP aims to ensure a consistent and fair decision making process when considering applications to the RVC’s remuneration and reward schemes which supplement the pay spine and can be used for a variety of purposes. The reward schemes support the achievement of the Corporate Plan by enabling the RVC to appropriately reward, recognise and retain staff of the RVC.
These reward schemes are:-
- An Extended Salary Range Scheme to assist with the recruitment and retention of highly valued staff;
- A Special Award Scheme to recognise specific work undertaken which is over and above, or outside of, normal working duties;
- A Recognition Scheme to provide immediate small rewards to staff on Grades 1-5 in a range of circumstances;
- A Responsibility Allowance Scheme to recognise and remunerate temporary changes in the level of duties and responsibilities of staff.

The scheduled dates of the next Special Reward Panel meetings are:

Dates are subject to change. In this event, the dates of rescheduled meetings will be communicated to staff as quickly as possible.
When making an application to the SRP, applications must be submitted to HR at least 15 working days before the date of the meeting.
